What income does HDFC Diners Club Black Metal ask for?

HDFC asks salaried applicants for ₹2.5 lakh a month net and the self-employed for a ₹30 lakh ITR. What each floor covers, and what it leaves out.

HDFC’s published income floor for the Diners Club Black Metal is a net monthly income above ₹2.5 lakh if you are salaried, and an Income Tax Return above ₹30 lakh a year if you are self-employed. Those are the figures on HDFC’s own card pages as of October 2026. Both work out to the same ₹30 lakh a year. They are minimums, and the bank says plainly that clearing them does not decide the application.

The two published floors

HDFC splits applicants into two groups. Each has its own income test and its own age band.

Salaried applicants need a net monthly income above ₹2.5 lakh and must be between 21 and 60 years old. Net means take-home pay: what reaches your account after income tax, provident fund and professional tax come out. A salary slip showing ₹2.5 lakh gross does not clear this test, because the net figure on the same slip is smaller.

Self-employed applicants are tested on a yearly figure. The return has to show more than ₹30 lakh a year, and their age band runs to 65.

Both groups must be Indian nationals. Neither page lists any other condition, such as a minimum length of credit history, an existing HDFC account or a relationship balance.

Twelve months at ₹2.5 lakh is ₹30 lakh, so the two routes ask for the same annual income, measured differently: monthly take-home pay for the salaried, an annual return for the self-employed.

Where HDFC’s two pages differ

The card’s eligibility page describes the self-employed test as an ITR above ₹30 lakh per annum. The main product page, one click away, lists the same group under “Net Income” above ₹30 lakh per annum and does not mention the return.

They probably mean the same thing: the documents list on the product page asks the self-employed for Income Tax Returns, so the return is how that income gets proved. But HDFC does not say which page governs. If you are self-employed, the figure that matters on paper is the total income on your most recent filed return. Turnover does not count, and neither does a bank balance.

The salaried test reads the same on both pages: net monthly income above ₹2.5 lakh.

What the floor does not tell you

Meeting the income floor does not mean HDFC issues the card. Its disclaimer says approvals are at the bank’s sole discretion and subject to documentation and verification. The bank runs other checks, a credit report among them, and publishes none of those criteria for this card. This guide does not estimate anyone’s chances, because nothing HDFC publishes gives a basis for doing so.

The documents HDFC lists are the usual set. Identity proof can be a passport, Aadhaar, voter ID, driving licence or PAN card, with passport-size photographs. Address proof can be a utility bill, a rental agreement, a passport, Aadhaar or a voter ID. Income proof is salary slips for the salaried, Income Tax Returns for the self-employed, Form 16 and bank statements. The page adds that some applicants may be asked to upload documents or complete a video KYC.

The route you apply under also sets the upper age. The salaried route closes at 60. The self-employed route stays open to 65 and tests the return in place of monthly pay.

What the card asks of you once you hold it

After approval, the fee and the bonuses depend on how much you put through the card.

The renewal fee is ₹10,000 plus tax. It is waived if you spend ₹8 lakh on the card in the year. That is about ₹66,667 a month. Set against the ₹30 lakh minimum qualifying income, the waiver spend is 26.7% of it.

The welcome memberships (Club Marriott, Amazon Prime and Swiggy One) need ₹1.5 lakh of spend in the first 90 days, roughly ₹50,000 a month across that window.

The quarterly bonus asks for more. Spending ₹4 lakh in a calendar quarter earns 10,000 bonus Reward Points. Collecting all four in a year means ₹16 lakh of spend, which is 53.3% of the minimum qualifying income. A spend counts in the quarter it posts to the card, so a purchase on the last day of a quarter can land in the next one. EMI and wallet loads do not count toward it.

Lounge access and golf need no spend. Lounge access is unlimited in India and abroad, for the primary card and add-on cards, with no spend requirement; guests pay the lounge. The card also includes 6 golf games a quarter.

The base earn rate is 5 Reward Points per ₹150. Fuel, rent and wallet loads earn nothing. Foreign currency spends carry a 2% markup.

What to check on your own paperwork

If you are salaried, start with your salary slip and find the net pay line, not the gross. Compare it with ₹2.5 lakh. If your take-home moves month to month because of variable pay, look at the months a bank would see on your recent slips and statements, since the page states a monthly figure and does not say how it averages one.

If you are self-employed, open your most recent filed return and read the total income. It has to be above ₹30 lakh.

Check your age against the band for your route: up to 60 for salaried, up to 65 for self-employed.

Then take your last few card statements and add up the spend you would move to this card. If the monthly total is under ₹66,667, the renewal fee is likely to be charged. If your first three months on the card would come in under ₹1.5 lakh in total, the welcome memberships stay out of reach.

Krediit reads this card’s income floor, fee waiver and quarterly bonus from the same catalog record, and tracks your spend against the waiver and the quarter so the shortfall shows before the period closes.
