Do Axis credit cards earn rewards on Apple Pay?

Axis says an Apple Pay purchase earns what the physical card earns. What that means on Ace, Airtel Axis and Atlas, and the ₹5,000 limit on a new card.

Yes. Axis Bank’s Apple Pay page says every Apple Pay purchase earns the same EDGE Reward points, cashback and card benefits as a purchase on the physical card, at the card’s standard rate. So an Axis Ace tapped through an iPhone at a shop earns its usual 1.5%, the same as the plastic would. Apple Pay changes how the card reaches the terminal. It does not add a rate, and it does not move a purchase into a category it was not already in.

Each Axis card’s higher rates are tied to a merchant, an app or a booking channel, and Apple Pay leaves those conditions where they were. Most of this guide is about that.

What Axis has switched on

Apple Pay went live on Axis Bank credit cards on 30 September 2026. Axis’s page says it is available on all Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards. RuPay is not named. Ace, Airtel Axis and Atlas are all Visa cards in their records, so all three qualify.

You add the card through Axis’s mobile banking app or Apple Wallet. The page lists an iPhone on iOS 18 or later, an iPad on iPadOS 18 or later, or an Apple Watch on watchOS 11 or later. Add-on cardholders can add their own card with their own login. Axis says it charges no setup fee, no transaction fee and no annual charge for Apple Pay.

Spending limits are the contactless limits already set on the physical card, which you can see and change under Manage Usage Limits in the Axis app. Contactless use has to be enabled on the card before an in-store Apple Pay payment goes through.

The rate follows the card, and so do its conditions

Take a ₹1,000 purchase at a shop, paid by holding an iPhone to the reader.

On Ace, the base rate is ₹3 of cashback per ₹200, which is 1.5%. The purchase earns ₹15. On Airtel Axis the base rate is 1%, so it earns ₹10. On Atlas the base rate is 2 EDGE Miles per ₹100, so it earns 20 EDGE Miles. Each of those is what the plastic card earns on the same bill.

Ace pays 5% on electricity, water, gas, LPG and broadband bills and on DTH and mobile recharges, and its record is specific about where: only when the bill is paid with the card inside Google Pay on Android. The same bills paid anywhere else earn nothing at all, because Axis excludes the utility and telecom merchant codes outright. A power bill paid from an iPhone through Apple Pay is a utility payment outside Google Pay, so on Ace it earns nothing. Neither the 5% nor the 1.5% base rate applies to it.

Ace’s 4% on Swiggy, Zomato and Ola is matched on those merchants’ own merchant IDs, on their websites and apps. The record does not make the payment method a condition. That tier and the 5% tier share one ceiling of ₹500 of cashback a statement month, and Apple Pay does not raise it.

Airtel Axis pays 25% on Airtel mobile, broadband, WiFi and DTH bills and 10% on other utility bills, and both rates belong to payments made inside the Airtel Thanks app. A bill paid to the same biller outside that app is not the same transaction in the card’s rules. Each tier has its own monthly ceiling, and the ceilings stay as they are.

Atlas pays 5 EDGE Miles per ₹100 on flights and hotels only when the spend is on Axis Travel EDGE, direct with an airline or direct with a hotel, up to ₹2 lakh of such spend a month. Bookings through travel sites and agents earn the base 2. A travel-site booking paid with Apple Pay is still a travel-site booking, and an airline’s own checkout paid with Apple Pay is still a direct one.

What the fine print carries

A card can be added to Apple Pay before the plastic arrives, as long as it shows in the Axis app and online transactions are enabled. Until the physical card is delivered, Apple Pay works only for online payments, and only up to ₹5,000 per transaction. A new cardholder who plans a large first purchase through Apple Pay will hit that limit.

Exclusions travel with the card. Ace earns nothing on fuel, rent, wallet loads, insurance and education. Airtel Axis earns nothing on fuel, rent and wallet loads. Atlas earns no EDGE Miles on fuel, utilities, insurance, wallet loads and rent. Tapping a phone instead of a card at a fuel pump does not change the merchant code the pump sends.

Axis says Apple Pay works abroad wherever contactless is accepted. The card underneath is unchanged, and all three records carry a 3.5% markup on foreign-currency spends. A purchase worth ₹1,000 abroad costs ₹35 more than the converted price, whichever way the card is presented.

Axis’s page says card benefits are the same but does not itemise them. It does not say, line by line, how Apple Pay spends count toward a fee waiver or a lounge spend threshold, so this guide does not claim it.

Refunds work as they do on plastic. The merchant sends the refund, and Axis’s page says it typically shows on the card statement within 5 to 7 business days. On Ace and Airtel Axis, cashback on a refunded purchase is reversed.

What to check on your own statement

An Apple Pay purchase appears on the Axis statement as an ordinary card transaction against the merchant’s name. Axis also sends an SMS and email for every approved or declined Apple Pay payment.

On Ace and Airtel Axis, cashback is a statement credit that lands with the next statement. Pick one Apple Pay purchase from this cycle, work out the rate it falls under, and look for that amount in the next statement’s cashback line. A ₹1,000 shop purchase on Ace is ₹15.

On Atlas, compare the EDGE Miles credited for the cycle against the spend. A travel booking that earned 2 Miles per ₹100 when you expected 5 was almost always booked through a travel site or agent. Apple Pay had no part in it. A utility bill paid through Apple Pay on Ace will show no cashback at all, which is the card’s rule and nothing to raise with the bank.

The facts table under this guide is each card’s catalog record, dated. Krediit holds those records against your own spend and shows the rate, the channel condition and the cap headroom for a purchase before you make it, whichever way you present the card.
